Add Joe Speaking to Gemini

These are Gemini’s own steps, with the labels you’ll see. You only do this once.

Before you start

Google says custom apps need a personal Google Account (not a work or school account), age 18 or older, Keep Activity turned on, and English. Google’s guide lists the US. Add the app on gemini.google.com on a computer; after that it also works in the Gemini mobile app.

    Open Connected Apps

    On a computer, go to gemini.google.com, click Settings, then Connected Apps. If you don’t see it, click Personal Intelligence, then Connected Apps.

    Add a custom app

    Under Custom apps, click Add a custom app. Some accounts show + Custom, then Connect to an MCP server. Paste the server URL as the MCP server URL and click Next. Leave the additional settings empty: Joe Speaking needs no client ID or secret.

    Confirm with Google

    Read Google’s notice about connecting an MCP server, tick the box and click Connect. When Google asks to link your Google Account with Joe Speaking, choose Agree and continue.

    Sign in, then click Connect

    Sign in to Joe Speaking and choose Allow access. Back in Gemini, the Save your custom app window lists Joe Speaking: click Connect. If you close it instead, the app stays unconnected. Gemini then says Joe Speaking is connected.

    Ask with @Joe Speaking

    In a chat, type @, choose Joe Speaking, then ask your question. Without the @ mention, Gemini may answer without reading your practice.

To disconnect

In Gemini, open Settings → Connected Apps. Under Custom apps, turn Joe Speaking off, or open More details and choose Disconnect or Remove app. Or, in Joe Speaking, open Settings → Connected Apps and remove it. Access stops right away.
